The purpose of the Golden Gals organization is to promote curling among women curlers sixty years & older and unite these curlers for competitive curling at their own physical capability and common interest. 1982 to 1984 were the grass root years for a host of dedicated women volunteers working to get information together, making up committees, bylaws, and rules and then finding initial funding and also a lot of eager curlers.
Grass Root Years
In order to promote and encourage play in all districts, all eligible players may curl. They do not have to belong or affiliate to any club, and do not require a competitive card. The players on each team may be from anywhere within their district boundaries and have reached 60 years before December 31st prior to that Provincial. (Leads may be 55 to 59 yrs / new as of May, 2016). A player can only compete in one district per season.A team may have one player 55 years or older who may play and position. (May, 2016)
Join Us
At district level, an average of about 80 teams competed yearly in those first 5 or so years. The Province is divided into 12 districts, with playoffs being held in each of these districts. 16 winning teams then move on to compete at the Provincial level. Each curling game is only 8 ends and no more than 2 games a day. The 12 districts are listed with info on their respective playoff days, towns, and contract person.
